The car flipped over after hitting the hayride wagon carrying 14 adults. According to the Fox Fire Department, “The strike from the vehicle was hard enough that people were ejected from the wagon itself.”
Chief Greg Witek says many of the injured suffered broken bones and some were unconscious when emergency crews arrived.
The 11 injured passengers were taken to four hospitals. Rush Copley Medical Center received three patients. One is in critical condition. The conditions of the other hayride passengers are unknown at this time. There were two people in the car, and they were both treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The tractor pulling the hayride was traveling at a slow rate of speed when it was rear-ended. The Kendall County Sheriff’s Department says the car driven by a 22-year-old woman from DeKalb slammed into the rear of the wagon being towed by a tractor. She was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
