April 1, 2024 – Sycamore, IL — Cronauer Law, LLP has settled a product liability lawsuit on behalf of a West Virginia resident, who sustained permanent burn injuries due to an allegedly defective NuWave Nutri-Pot 6-Quart Digital Pressure Cooker. The complaint, filed in the Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois, seeks damages for negligence, strict liability, and breach of warranty against NuWave, LLC, an Illinois-based company.
Case Overview
The lawsuit alleges that on July 24, 2022, Cronauer’s client was using the NuWave pressure cooker to prepare soup when the lid violently exploded off the unit, despite following the manufacturer’s safety instructions and allowing the pressure to release before attempting to open it. The explosion caused super-heated contents to spray across her arms and chest, resulting in serious and permanent injuries.
Allegations Against NuWave
According to the complaint, the pressure cooker was defectively designed and manufactured, allowing dangerous pressure to build even when the safety mechanisms appeared disengaged. The suit further claims that NuWave falsely advertised its “Sure Lock Technology” as a protective feature preventing the lid from opening while pressure remained inside—a claim that, if true, failed catastrophically in this client’s case.
The legal action asserts:
– Negligence in design, manufacturing, marketing, and failure to warn consumers
– Strict product liability for selling an unreasonably dangerous product
– Breach of implied warranties, including fitness for ordinary and particular purposes
The client’s complaint details that the pressure cooker exploded during ordinary use and that NuWave was allegedly aware of similar incidents but failed to take corrective action or issue a recall.
Seeking Justice for Pressure Cooker Victims
“This case is about holding manufacturers accountable when safety promises turn out to be false and people are harmed as a result,” said Bradley D. Melzer, an attorney at Cronauer Law, LLP. “Pressure cookers are supposed to make life easier—not put families at risk. Our client followed the instructions and still suffered life-altering injuries. That is unacceptable.”
The plaintiff seeks damages in for medical costs, pain and suffering, permanent disfigurement, and other losses, as well as punitive damages against NuWave for knowingly distributing a dangerous product.
