Two-Vehicle Collision on East Illinois Route 84 Result in Injuries and Citations
On the evening of December 29, a serious two-vehicle accident occurred on East Illinois Route 84 near South Mulford Road, highlighting the potential dangers of improper passing on our roadways.
According to reports from the Ogle County Deputies, a Hyundai, driven by 29-year-old Sarah Goshko of Dekalb, was traveling westbound on East Illinois Route 64 when the accident took place. Concurrently, a Toyota, operated by 31-year-old Jose Zacatzi-Toniz, also of Dekalb, was moving eastbound and attempted to pass another vehicle. However, in doing so, Zacatzi-Toniz entered the westbound lane, colliding with Goshko’s Hyundai.
The impact resulted from this misguided maneuver, leading to both drivers sustaining injuries. Emergency services, including the LSR Fire Department, swiftly responded to the scene. Goshko was transported to a local hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. Unfortunately, Zacatzi-Toniz suffered what are suspected to be major injuries and was also taken to a local healthcare facility for treatment.
Further complicating the situation, Zacatzi-Toniz was cited for several traffic violations following the accident. These citations included Improper Passing, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Zacatzi-Toniz has received a Notice to Appear in court at a later date.
